Appalachian Service Project
Appalachia Service Project, Inc. (ASP) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that fosters human development by addressing the housing needs of Central Appalachia. ASP’s vision is to eradicate substandard housing in Central Appalachia and equip and inspire lives of Christian service. ASP works in Central Appalachia — where Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia come together. There are three permanent Year-Round Centers for the Adult Program during the fall, winter, and spring. With the help of 15,000 volunteers each year, the goal remains to make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need.
Yet ASP is more than a home repair program. It also provides a unique framework that fosters transformational experiences for volunteers, families served, and staff — by building relationships with each other that break down cultural, social and economic barriers, because when you change the lives of others, they have a way of changing you. Through their eyes, you’ll see yourself as the person you’ve always wanted to be… compassionate… committed… with the power to make a difference. Through their gratitude, you’ll be inspired to serve others in every area of your life. Through their down-to-earth faith, your own faith will grow stronger, and your relationship with God will grow deeper every day. Significant life changes often occur as a result of the ASP experience. No one walks away from the ASP experience unchanged. The results are truly amazing! After a few days of hard work repairing homes with ASP, your hands will grow a little tougher, your arms a little stronger, and your relationship with God a whole lot deeper. You’ll return home to your community with a passion for service, a renewed compassion for other people, and a fresh appreciation for your place and purpose in this world. Best of all, you’ll discover first-hand that regardless of geography, education, or economic class, we are all equal members of the family of God.
